ABSTRACT

Social media are the influential Internet community for general netizens to disseminate information, views, and opinions extensively. Recently, the research on Sentiment analysis has intensified due to the vast amount of data obtained from these numerous social networking platforms. During this COVID-19 pandemic, one of the great social networking sites viz. Twitter has experienced a significant increase in online posts and reviews concerning COVID-19 related tweets. In the view of Twitter, the spread of news concerning coronavirus variants has impacted many aspects of the public by providing messages around different issues and opinions to its potential users. In this study, we have used Twitter as a source of data for searching the index keywords and hashtag versions for the terms like "Pandemic”, "Coronavirus”, "COVID-19”, "SARS-CoV-2”, and "Omicron”, and we have examined the psychological and emotional impact it had on the public. This paper provides analytical information about people's perceptions of coronavirus (tweets were collected from March 2020 to December 2021). With those tweets, sentiment analysis was performed using the TextBlob text processing python module to acquire the people's subjective data (opinions and feelings) polarity concerning the effects of coronavirus. Furthermore, for effective text classification, we have applied classification methodologies like Support Vector Machine (SVM), K Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Logistic Regression (LR), and Decision Tree (DT). The SVM concerning feature extraction produced the results with 99.49% accuracy. This study assists the government organizations in attaining COVID-19 insights by implying public mental health sentiments in social networks. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to unearth various dimensions of employee experience (EX) and explore how pandemic impacted various EX factors using online employee reviews. The authors identify employee-discussed EX-factors and quantify the associated sentiments and importance. Design/methodology/approach: This paper employs Latent Dirichlet Allocation on the online employee reviews to identify the key EX-factors. The authors probe sentiments and importance associated with key EX-factors using sentiment analysis, importance analysis, regression analysis and dominance analysis. Findings: The result of topic modeling identifies 20 EX-factors that shape overall EX. While skill development plays a major role in shaping overall EX, employees perceived Salary and Growth as the most important EX-factor and expressed negative sentiments during the pandemic. Employee sentiments significantly influence overall EX. Practical implications: When employees have extensive change experience, managers should consider various facets of EX to manage the smooth change and deliver a better EX. This research offers key EX-factors to be considered by managers while dealing with employees. Online employee reviews websites are recommended to include the identified key EX-factors to comprehend the holistic EX. Originality/value: This study contributes to the growing literature on the employee experience as a concept by identifying various EX-factors. The authors expand the extant EX scales by identifying an inclusive and updated set of EX-factors. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

Drug repurposing refers to finding a new indication for a pre-existing drug. It is a novel way of drug discovery that greatly reduces the time and money spent in the drug discovery process. This approach is associated with a better chance of successful drug approval. Both previously approved drugs as well as drugs that have failed in the trials conducted for their original indication can be repurposed. Even drugs withdrawn from market for their original indication can be repurposed for a new indication. Starting with Sildenafil which is the oldest example of repurposed drug to the recently repurposed drug tocilizumab for COVID-19, the list of repurposed drugs is a big one. The regulatory pathway to be followed for a repurposed drug is different from that for a new chemical entity. Furthermore, the period of marketing exclusivity for repurposed drug is only 3 years as against the 20 years of patent protection period for new drug. The strategy for drug repurposing may be a serendipitous one or hypothesis driven one. The hypothesis driven strategy includes the experimental and computational approaches. Computational approaches for drug discovery, especially the Connectivity map approach, offer a lot of scope to understand the drug-disease-gene link, thereby acting as a kick-starter for drug repurposing. Drug repurposing has real potential to offer a cure for rare genetic conditions and cancers. This review covers the various drug repurposing approaches in detail, the regulatory pathway for repurposed drugs, salient examples of repurposed drugs and also the challenges associated with drug repurposing.

ABSTRACT

The demand for biophotonics technologies has rapidly increased over the years and supply of professionals capable of working in multi- and inter-disciplinary topics associated with tissue optics and translating optical technologies to the clinic are still scarce. Despite the number of programs to created to increase the number of high-quality biophotonics professionals, most of these programs are focused on post-graduate audiences and involve in-person activities. Particularly on the education side, online teaching and learning (OTL) have exponentially grown over the years as universities adopted online courses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing restrictions required courses to be offered fully online. Educators have adopted combinations of resources including online apps, simulations, virtual labs, and massive open online courses (MOOCs) to complement recorded or video-conferenced classes. However, most of these resources were not designed to be integrated into virtual courses, compromising the quality of instruction/education especially in events relying on in-person activities to convey information quicker than online activities. These events include short-term courses and outreach events, where fostering students' engagement and interest with fully online activities can be challenging. The quality of instruction is further compromised when events involve multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary OTL, which includes biophotonics and biomedical optics courses. To overcome the aforementioned challenges, we have developed and tested a variety of activities and resources for a short-term virtual biophotonics workshop (BW) including webinars, at-home experiments, and computer simulations. Our BW targeted undergraduate students and secondary-school teachers with diverse backgrounds and offered activities to meet needs of learners with diverse backgrounds, learning styles and education levels. Resources provided self-paced learning over the duration of the workshop. Our participants' feedback for 2020 and 2021 BWs showed >78.6% of participating respondents considered every activity of the BW important for their learning process. Also, every BW activity received >69.2% "Very good"and ""Good"responses for overall learning, >91.7% for quality of teaching, >90% for quality of subject matter. Similarly, >75% of participants were "Very interested"or "Interested"in every activity. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Medical museums are critical to academic medicine. Its collections engage sensory perceptions, personal feelings, responses and reactions to stimulate change in participants' personal learning, critical thinking and overall knowledge. Aims: To evaluate the utility value of museum in medical education To promote medical students to use museum objects as resource materials. Materials and methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study involving 124 2nd and 3rd year MBBS students of VMCH & RI as well as 22 teaching faculties were interviewed using a self-administered pretested two sets (set 1-section A and B for student and set 2-section A and B for faculty) of paper-based questionnaire. In questionnaire set-1, section B satisfaction levels of students' visit to museum were categorized in 3 groups based on their indication on modified visual analogue scales ranging from 0 to 100: Dissatisfied (0-30), Satisfied (31-60), Highly satisfied (61-100). Same questionnaire and pictures of museum contents and models were shared with 145 2n d year MBBS students of another batch online due to COVID-19 pandemic.Collected data were analyzed and expressed in percentage Results: Study shows museum visit was informative for 48% students, informative as well as interesting for 3 1 % . 57% were highly satisfied and 42% were satisfied with the session.Only few (1.6%) called it was a boring activity and 1.4% were not satisfied. 9 1% of participating faculty members expressed their view that concept of museum in medical curriculum should be preserved with proper update. 56% of online participant were not satisfied. Conclusion: Museum items can be effective teaching tools provided they are developed, updated and utilised properly.

ABSTRACT

The adoption to digital media by individuals has increased multifold during the Covid 19 pandemic. The increased digital screen time may affect the sleep quality of the individuals which would lead to other health issues. India has imposed lockdown owing to the second wave of the pandemic and individuals of different demographic classes have been exposed to increased digital screen time. While several global studies have examined the health problems caused due to increased screen time, there is minimal evidence of its effect on all demographic groups in the Indian context. Hence this study aims to investigate the relation between digital screen usage and insomnia during Covid 19 pandemic among all demographic groups of individuals. Structured questionnaire was employed to capture the demographic characteristics, screen time during weekdays and weekends and Insomnia levels. The survey responses from 253 participants were analyzed using ANOVA tests. Younger adults were found to have more screen time during weekdays and weekends. The findings also revealed that there was association of the higher screen time exposure during weekdays and weekends and insomnia levels of the individuals. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

HEMOCOVID-19 project spans four countries and eight hospitals to evaluate the microvascular and endothelial health of severe COVID-19 patients using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) of the forearm muscle. In order to implement the project, we have developed protocols and tested ten commercial continuous-wave NIRS devices of the same model (PortaMon, Artinis, NL). They were characterized and compared for intra-And inter-device, inter-And intra-operator and temporal variability in solid phantoms and in vivo. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. ABSTRACT

Novel 2-(3-(4-substituted aryl)guanidine-1-yl)-4-phenyl-6-(thiophene-2-yl)pyrimidines (7) were synthesized by simple condensation between chalcones with therapeutic biguanide derivatives. The novel guanidinopyrimidine derivatives (7) were characterized by different spectral studies. Furthermore, subject to ADMET prediction using pkSCM software and molecular docking studies against different kinds of novel RNA proteins such as, spike (PDB ID: 6XC3), main protease (3CLpro - PDB ID: 6LU7), RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp - PDB ID: 6W9Q) and host protein ACE2 (PDB ID:1R42) spike protein and also the activities are compared with FDA-approved few human trial drugs such as hydroxychloroquine (HQC), favipiravir and lopinavir. © 2020 Ubiquity Press.
